Writing is an experience. Let’s make it
a good one.
Professional Storyteller
Rebecca Biggio, Ph.D.
I help scholars, professionals, and military leaders navigate the challenges of advanced academic writing, professional storytelling, and personal narrative writing.
Writing is a life skill.
Writing is communication. Writing is persuasion. Writing is story. Writing is therapy. Writing is an experience, and our experiences, and how we understand them, make us who we are.
Whatever your project, communication is key. Writing is not a solitary experience. You have a specific audience and a specific purpose, whether that purpose is to inform, to persuade, or to entertain.
Communication requires give and take, processing information, interpreting and internalizing. Clarity and accessibility are key. Jargon, elevated vocabulary, and complicated narrative structures distract from your message and your connection with your audience. Language is most powerful when it is spare and succinct, direct, and delivered with that give and take in mind. How will your specific audience receive and understand your words? How will your story resonate with the person you envision reading it?
Whether you are writing as an academic, a professional, or a memoirist, you are part of a community. Your writing is part of a conversation with your peers, your readers, writers who came before you and those who will come after.
I can help you find your place in the conversation.
I created Whisper Lake Writing because I believe writing is a process, not just a means to an end. Your experience of that process is just as important and meaningful as the finished product.
